Active Lives

One of the best parts of working at Rosehedge/Multifaith Works is seeing the adult family home residents lead active lives, as much as they are able.  Once a month,  one of the residents at DeWolfe House brings in his housing payment to the office in person instead of mailing it.  This involves an eight block trek on a motorized wheel chair.  When it rains, he suits up appropriately and comes to hand over his money order in person.  It is always lovely to say hello to him and hear how he is doing.  It is a great excursion for him and a treat for us to have a little interaction with the people we serve.

Another resident at DeWolfe house suffers from Parkinson’s disease.  Last year he heard that exercise might be beneficial to him.   Our social worker helped him negotiate a YMCA membership with a minimal fee that could be paid through the help of our office setting it up.  Whenever I talk to him, he is always enthusiastic about how much going to the “Y” helps to relieve his symptoms.  I work in the finance department and it would be easy to just think in terms of names and numbers but our agency is so much more than that.  We help individuals who have problems even beyond HIV/AIDS have better, well-cared-for lives.
